How are your plants doing?
During the spring season, we asked what you were planting this season and we also shared some of our teams’ hopeful suggestions for their indoor or outdoor gardens. The time has come to have a mid-summer check-in of our environments and we are loving what is popping up both indoors and outdoors this year!
Our team culture is one that encourages being green from end to end and we actively try to preserve and maintain a healthy environment both indoors and out. We challenged each other to see what great things we try to grow this year to help preserve the environment, work with nature and reconnect to our living spaces. Having access to fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs can help you save some money and also add an organic and possibly delicious addition to your meals.
Many plants can also be added to your outdoor decor or garden to help ward off insects such as citronella and marigold. Others can be planted to attract bees or butterflies so you can have some control of what you’d like to see in and around your garden.
Tomatoes in our region of Ontario, Canada will be starting to bear fruit very soon and this is a great time to plant or harvest those herbs and spices that during the pandemic became scarce, out of stock or very expensive. If you plan now and prepare to harvest this fall you may find that during your winter season, you’ll be well prepared to create some delicious meals. So don’t forget that if you do have a great harvest and it is possible to freeze your herbs or dry them out for use in months to come. Those out-of-season items are getting costly due to inflation, climate change, and disruption of supply chains globally.
We hope that wherever you live in the world that you begin to connect or reconnect to the soil. It can be quite therapeutic to watch a plant grow of any species. Experiment and get creative with your planters. You can make a planter or a piece of art from your surroundings our old junk items that may just add that very cool or unique centerpiece to your own area. Add some of your personality to your space and you might just find yourself smiling as you watch your garden flourish this year.
If you are not one who likes to spend a lot of time tending to plants, here is a wonderful hack to get you started!
At your local grocery store or typically from Asian produce stores you will find plants, fruits, and vegetables with their roots intact. Most of us will cut these parts off and throw them out, but with a little care and sometimes just adding the roots to water you can revive your vegetables and plant them in your own space.
Have a look and experiment planting some local items from your area into your gardens and you’ll be surprised at what some vegetables are able to do by re-generating and continuing to grow. This works great for herbs and spices and a huge bonus is that you may just save a few dollars on your grocery bill this year and always!
Some of teammates have mentioned that this personal spring challenge has been beneficial. We need that time away from our screens and those moments of just being outdoors and in the garden working with soil was a very relaxing opportunity. This year a little will go a long way with when that awesome fruit, flower, or seed sprouts into something wonderful that you worked to make happen. If you had a chance to plant something great, we congratulate you on your effort and we truly hope that your garden is blooming today and always.
We hope you are having a blast this summer and wish you many sunny days to admire your garden or plants.
