Happy New Year! 2023!
New Year, New Resolutions, a fresh perspective, a new start, these are all feelings many of us experience at this time of year.
Some of us need to work on our health and for that matter we take a look at our entire physical and mental well being at this time of year.
The days off gave us all a time to rejuvenate, rest, and enjoy life, meeting some of or friends and family for the first time after several years and months and we are still in a Pandemic.
2023 we hope will be a great year for you and we hope that if you made any New Years Resolutions, you can stick to them.
For our NWES 10 year which we are still in as a company we launched a new coaching platform with our resident expert and coaching professional, Kelvin Ali.
We asked Kelvin for some tips to share with the community at this time of year.
“If you need one, get a coach, mentor, professional therapist, whatever your mental or physical state of mind is set realistic expectations and goals for yourself.
Year end is resolution time, I want to change this, fix that, get this in order, work on this, achieve that, whatever you want make a plan.
You need to lose 20 pounds, aim for 2-3 pounds a month and make good choices each day and week.
The little things add up so check with your doctor and you feel ok, start with the intention the why?
Why do you want to lose 20 pounds? Write it out. Acknowledge all of the negativity and self-hate and dismiss it once you know what feelings are driving you to make the change you want to experience.
Then you have to plan, set aside blocks of time, identify your goals, and break them down into manageable achievable things.
You can walk for 5 minutes a day, next week try 10, the following week try 15, and get to where 20 felt like it was the effort of 5.
Identify why. Determine what. Seek the How and begin.
Some people need help to hold them accountable, as a coach it’s my job to ask the hard questions, it’s your job to answer honestly to yourself and then seek the answers out. Almost any goal can be achieved with a healthy intention and mindset and if you need help, there are people that have the knowledge and experience to help you reach that goal. Never be afraid to invest in yourself. If you aren’t ever going to do so, who do you expect will?
Many people I’ve met are extremely wealthy but fundamentally not happy. Most people would dream about their success and income levels but the stress, hard work, anxiety, and mental fortitude required to achieve the unimaginable is not something people hear about. Executives and leaders often find themselves pretty lonely at the top, and that should never have been the outcome of success which it often is so think about that Why?
Do you want to lose 20 pounds to fit back into that outfit you love or do you love yourself as you are and others are making you feel unworthy? Maybe you might just need a new set of clothes rather than a 6-month gym membership that you will probably only use for a few weeks until you realize that the gym is not convenient for your schedule and lifestyle.
Identify the habits you really need, that takes critical analysis and some self-love to reflect on those areas you want to change or improve.
Many people will spend 20K on a car but never on their own mental and physical wellbeing in the form of personal development. My question to anyone is, if you don’t want to develop yourself to be the best human you can be with the time you have on this earth, then what do you want to do?
The greatest tip I can give you is to get help if you need it. Invest in yourself and your education and invest in a coach, a teacher, a professional who can help you, but know your why, with that in a few weeks that resolution you just made may go downhill if your intention was never clear in the first place.
We all have the willpower to make changes, just like you have the ability to control your breath. When you are stressed out start with some deep and relaxed breathing and say a positive mantra to yourself. If you don’t love yourself who do you expect will?”
