Fishing Season is Open!
The Summer Fishing Season has opened up in Ontario!
We’ve waited for many months to get on the waters and this summer we hope to enjoy some of the long summer days!
Have you ever caught a fish of gigantic proportions? Many men have heard tall tales of monsters caught in waters of all depths around the world and we hope that if you are a fisherman or fisherwoman that whatever your catch is this summer, it’s bountiful!
Here are some tips to keep you safe this summer:
- Get your proper fishing and class of angler license. In Ontario, there are both Angler and Sport classification of licenses that you can acquire and know your size, species, and catch limit will help you to enjoy your outing while preserving the environment and the species. *It could also prevent you from possible and very severe fine from conservation authorities!
- Always wear a certified life jacket when boating and make sure that it is the right size and weight class for the wearer! You never know when an expected fall might occur which could cause those in small craft to capsize on days when the water is rough!
- Always look over your shoulder before casting your line! One of the worst and nastiest injuries that can happen is when inexperienced anglers fish too close to one another and are unaware of their surroundings! When you do pull your own monster out of the waters, realize that once the barbs go in, they are not easy to come out in both fish and human flesh! Fishing hooks hurt and snag into skin very easily!
- Always have enough fuel and know your boat’s fuel burn rate! Running out of fuel can kill your desire to ever go fishing again if you get stranded in the open waters, often there is no tow-boat service to call!
- Know the rules of the water and take a course on basic motor and universal boating etiquette! Knowing the rules of the water with a proper and minimal pleasure craft license can give you years of fun in the sun and on the water!
