Stuck in a sand trap?
Some of our team members like to golf and have shared some of them wonderful stories of their days off and of their time at the driving range at their favorite local course.
One of the benefits of residing in Eastern Ontario is the abundance of golf courses of all shapes and sizes to cater to players of all skills. The vast and open area can create a very tranquil and awesome 3-4 hour experience to reconnect to nature and get some exercise in.
In life like in golf, sometimes you will aim, take a swing, and your shot ends up in a bunker full of sand, strategically placed by the course designers. The frustration of your shot going astray is something we are all familiar with in the game of life. Are you currently stuck in a sand trap?
When we look at the best ways to get out of our shots gone astray, there is still a process to get you back on track. We carefully look at where our ball has fallen and we look at where we want to go when we do find out that the shot has landed in a sand trap. It is called a ‘trap’ for a reason and it can be difficult to get out, thankful there are no quicksand pits on the courses we know of!
The choice of clubs is limited and depending on what’s in your bag you have to choose the appropriately angled wedge. If you packed your bags and clubs for the day then you will most likely have packed a sand wedge.
Then we try to visualize a great outcome, we line our bodies up, take a few deep breaths, and we try to hit it out onto the fairway, green, or sometimes that horrible shot lands in the hole and we turned some terrible thoughts into an amazing outcome. The latter does happen often but it can, so it’s always a good idea to stay optimistic and think about the problem though.
Sometimes, almost miraculously your ball may find its way to the green or into the hole when you might not have been able to even have a clear view of where the hole is and this humbly reminds us of life at times.
Many brave souls have ventured onto a course for the first time and they have butchered the turf and course on several shots and sometimes we will lose a lot of balls trying to get through or around hazards. Some of them are water. Some of them are Sand traps. Some of them may be trees and heavy brush. Whatever you find yourself in on the course and in life. Close your eyes, take a deep breath, and visualize a great outcome. It may not always go your way but that is part of gaining experience in your craft, hobby, or passionate pursuit.
When our cohorts reflect and share their experiences with us, we can all relate to how awesome their day could or should have been! It’s a little like fishing, gardening, or anything you love to do, it’s 90% about having a fun filled day and experience and when it’s all over it’s about 10% about who actually won the day and recorded their score accurately!
When you use your time wisely, any experience can make an awesome memory on any day of the week!
Do you golf? Are you a mini-golf wizard? Maybe an awesome video golf gamer, we enjoyed the opportunity to get out and have some fun and we hope that you also do get a chance to get out of a sand trap on the most pristine of days when you have an opportunity to play a wonderful game.
