We are what we eat!
We send you good tidings and a message of peace as we approach the final moments of what seemed to be a year that just went by so quickly!
Our friends in the United States of America are about to celebrate thanksgiving and in the west, many of us will begin to pack on the extra pounds at this time of year through to the New Year. It’s a trend that many of us experience year over year and in recent years, we’ve all tried to be more diligent in our best health practices with a global Pandemic still takings its toll on us all.
As global humanity, incredible progress has been made with our collective effort and we all want to interact with our friends, family, and loved ones around the world as we once did in years gone by.
Here are a few tips we’ve found useful to remain in good shape in the months to come as the mood of the world at this time of year begins to become lighter and holiday gatherings will have fewer restrictions upon us this year in North America for those who have been vaccinated.
Limit your portions and high-calorie choices during this time of year.
Using your personal technology devices and or smart monitoring apps which are most likely already installed on your devices from your product manufacturers can be useful as your personal data is already known to your manufacturer in most cases when you register your device. Apple and Android devices typically have smart health monitoring apps which can be quite useful if you use them. You can not manage what you can not measure, so take a few snapshots of your personal health situation for yourself weekly and by year-end you’ll have some measure of where you need to focus your efforts if you’ve slipped along the way!
Add more of the healthier selections to your menu as an alternative if there are options for you. If you plan on attending all-you-can-eat buffet-style events or your family like many does a little extra at this time of year then prepare a couple of days in advance by fasting or reducing your calories intake before that big feast or special event! We all have been blessed to have had those opportunities where we had a little too much of something and we can use that as a benchmark to know where to slow down.
It is a blessing to have a meal so do reflect on those wonderful smells and delightful family specialties with gratitude and humility as many will also not have what you do, whatever it is, we encourage you to give thanks to your creator and your hosts!
Remember to chew your food and eat slowly. Our ability to taste is related to our ability to smell like human beings and relax, savor the flavours of the meal that you prepared with love, or that someone who has taken the time to prepare for you. So many of our memories as human beings are made at the dinner table, so make some good ones to end your year!
Be aware of what foods affect you in non-desirable ways and try to avoid them. If you have never tested yourself for food allergies and if you are able to do so, we advise that you seek out a Naturopathic Doctor or your Medical Doctor to just get some tests done to be aware. Knowing this sooner in life rather than later is beneficial and we all have eaten something that didn’t quite agree with us!
Enjoy the company of others and have great conversations. When you are engaged with good company the food, snacks, and delights are just part of the experience and we hope that whatever your family plans are this year, they are filled with lots of smiles, personal safety, abundant love, joyful and delightful meals with some great and awesome people.
We wish our friends in the US, a wonderful Thanksgiving week, and we wish all of you around the world a peaceful holiday season.
