Thanksgiving Canada
Canadians celebrated the start to the new season and a holiday long week-end enjoying time with family and friends for Thanksgiving. It’s the first time we’ve been able to gather without Pandemic restrictions for several years and for many of us 2022 is one that has been mentally and physically exhausting which makes this day of reflection and being grateful that much more needed.
While we celebrate the annual day of gratitude in October, our friends and neighbours in the US will actually have their annual Thanksgiving Day celebrations on November 24th this year. The US tradition which is typically a much grander national day to be with family will fall just 5 weeks before we begin 2023. In addition to this year’s annual sporting extravaganza’s, the FIFAWorld Cup will take place from November 20 to December 18th. We’re sure that many of our friends and family in the US will be enjoying Turkey with all of the fixings and many living room cheers will be happening around the globe.
What an incredible 2022 it has been for us all. This week-end time was spent with our families in gratitude and peace and we are looking forward to a great year end. We’ve made so much progress during difficult times. The Pandemic taught us valuable lessons about gratitude and this Thanksgiving was a day of appreciation and a much-needed day of recovery for us all.
We were asked to reflect on things that we we’re especially grateful for before we went into our week-end and we all found a way to smile as we remembered that we are still here and doing what we love. We were encouraged not to forget how we dealt with crisis as a global civilization and to remember the global population who mobilized, developed, produced, and distributed vaccines to combat severe illness around the world.
We’re grateful for our amazing health care workers, teachers, long term care facility workers, truck drivers, grocery clerks, and everyone who helped to keep communities safe and clean. It isn’t said enough and we salute everyone who contributed to the recovery effort, you are all always appreciated.
Thanksgiving is a time in the west where as a society we reflect on all good things. We willfully foster feelings of gratitude for our present circumstance, we wish for peace, and we spend time with family over a meal. Many of us will over eat on this day and we will watch sports on our day off and some of us may even pass on small gifts of appreciation to one another.
Do you have an annual tradition or celebration in your part of the world that fosters kindness, gratitude, and celebration off family? We’d love to hear about how you practice acts of kindness and gratitude in your community.
