Unless you know how to hit that post to avoid injury, it’s going to be hard to get up from a severe and unexpected blow.

If we weren’t resilient as a species we’d still be crawling and in so many ways we still are.

So how do you become resilient?

I think you have to first close your eyes for a moment and breathe.

When you feel like you are being resilient you are most likely under extreme stress or difficulty and it feels like you are just trying to survive. Everyone has been ‘broke’ in their own mind at times and the need to deal with the stress requires that you get disciplined habits to deal with the stress.

That could be a walk, meditation, prayer, a long shower, listening to something inspirational.

Have a soundtrack of life. Most people have technology in their pockets that are really powerful to consume good things.

If you are stressed and frustrated and you fuel that with toxic food and substances physical and intellectual then chances are you are not going to feel better about life the next day.

People around the world are tired. People are burned out. People are fed up with being sick and ill and now no one wants to see any more crisis and war and that’s what we are getting.

People have been locked up, restricted, and it feels like the world is at a boiling point and hopeless. That’s what resilience is. It’s hope. Like when you were a kid trying to learn to ride a bike, you fell. It hurt. You cried maybe, or maybe something even worse that required hospitalization.

But you survived. So how do you go from feeling like I am just getting by to feeling like you are the wealthiest person on the planet with only 10 cents in your pocket? Well, that comes from having gratitude for that breathe you are able to take.

I say Alhamdullilah for that breathe and you can say whatever positive phrases or words you like but it’s about changing your mindset from one of stress and anxiety into one of hope and gratitude and then you can begin by getting to your knees and standing up – you shake it off – and try again if it’s worth the effort. You try to envision yourself doing it right – remember the mistakes and you build up the courage to say, ‘I am not going to fall down next time and then the dropkick comes again. That is life man until you learn how to block the kicks without even looking because your resilience prepared you to swat the incoming threats away.

Pain and hardship will never cease, but you have to educate yourself. You have to try to sleep well. You must eat better balanced things to fuel your mind and body. You need to exercise in moderate ways. Keeping your homes clean and doing daily chores can be part of that process to get your 15-20 minutes of motion in. When you get older wellness is a priority, it has to be because the layers of responsibility will keep on coming and the layers keep getting harder to break through and then you have a magic thing called Energy!

So being resilient requires knowing how to deal with the stressors of life. This is why prayer or some kind of diligent meditative practice is needed just to cope with waking up tomorrow because the world has gone through so much hardship. It would be a lot better place if we all just took a few moments to become silent, calm, and be grateful for having whatever Rizq Allah (swt) has written for you. You want to become resilient manage your energy well and you will find it easier to get out of bed on those cold mornings when you know you have to but don’t want to because 10 minutes or more of much-needed sleep is needed on this Monday morning. We’ve all been there. We all know what we need to do, so make energy a focus this spring and I think you’ll have one of the best summers of your life. Everything is opening up again. People will socialize, memories will be made, and you’re going to need to be resilient if those old friends and family members had some toxic years as well during the Pandemic. Don’t say I didn’t warn you!”

We took that warning with a healthy smile and look forward to the next season of life.
